The increasing number of international travellers, whether voluntarily due to growing correspondence in international business or involuntarily due to economic and political exile, has led to a strong demand for translations of the written and spoken word in recent years. Opportunities for translators exist where there is a need for translation. However, the low capacity of capable professionals and the efficiency of the individual translator have placed a limit on human translation that could only be overcome at great economic cost. With the rapid development of electronic data processing, the possibility arises to transfer the translation of a foreign language to augmented reality and thus to realize an in real-time automated language translation system.
Ludwig Wittenstein once said, „the limits of my language are the limits of my world“. With the AR application LinguApp, the world seems limitless. The application for augmented reality glasses explores the possibilities we will be experiencing in the very near future. With simple commands, LinguApp provides the user with real-time translation of the written and spoken word, while an integrated learning system allows the user to practice and learn the language at home. The concept was created for a course project on augmented reality in public spaces, which was presented in the form of a showcase video alongside the concept presentation. The challenge was to explore the possibilities of such a technology and to create an interface with gestures and commands within possible AR glasses. The project has been developed by a partner and me. The video was edited by me and filmed by a friend in Korea.
